Piano Lessons

What will my lessons look like?

Piano lessons through Prelude will incorporate a few different musical facets into what I like to call a wholistic approach. Students will learn proper technique and how to read music, but they will also work on improvisation and music theory in order to gain a more complete understanding of how the piano works.

That said, I don’t stick strictly to any one method book. Students will receive a method book as the basis for their progress (I usually start with Faber Piano Adventures, but this is not across the board), but this method book will be supplemented with exercises for theory and improvisation, as well as with other songs to ensure they are also playing music they truly enjoy!

I use a couple of different method books depending on the age of the student, as well as their goals. These method books are also just a starting point.

Most students start out with a half hour lesson. I also offer 45-minute and 1-hour lessons for students at an age and skill level which would make it both worthwhile and productive.

Recitals & Studio Performances

I place great value in giving students opportunities to perform right off the bat, especially if they are starting lessons at a young age. This allows them to overcome any stage fright and be able to share their music with their family and friends. In my experience, people are truly blessed by live music and it is my goal to enable my students to bless those around them through performances. During the fall and spring school semesters, I will be holding a few different kinds of performances.

Scheduling

My schedule is fairly flexible for Summer 2025. Lessons are currently available on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but I may have more availability depending on interest. Please reach out to me at katherine@preludemusicnh.com if you have any questions about lesson times.
